Fruit of the Spirit : Love

LESSON SUMMARY

God is Love
What does the Bible say God is? God is love. (1 John 4:8)
Love is not just something God does. Love is the very nature of God. It’s who He is. Love rules everything that He does.

How did God show His love for us?
By sending His son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sin. Jesus loved us soooooo much that He gave His life for us. Even when we didn’t deserve it. Even when we hated Him. Even when we were His enemies.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
So if we ever doubt whether Jesus loves us or not, look to the cross. That’s the clearest sign of His love.

Jesus’ love is in us!
Jesus tells us that God the Father loved Him, so He loved us. (John 15:9)
And we are to remain in this love — keep being full of it!
And the one command He gives us is to:
John 15:12 Love each other as I have loved you

That seems like such a difficult thing to do! Jesus’ love is unconditional and perfect. How can we love others unconditionally and perfectly? The truth is … we can’t. Not on our own.
On our own, we’re selfish and unkind and self-seeking. Just like the moon, we have no light of our own.
That’s why it is so important to know how much Jesus loves us — so we can be filled with His love to love others around us.

1 John 4:19 We love because he first loved us.
Remember … Love is a Fruit of the Spirit. The Jesus tree produces Jesus fruit. And we are part of the Jesus tree! It’s not us trying to squeeze a durian out of a banana tree!

Fruit of the Spirit

LESSON SUMMARY

Jesus is the Vine
Jesus tells us the He is the vine, and we are the branches (John 15:5). If we remain in Him, and He in us, we will bear much fruit; apart from Him, we can do nothing!

What fruit will we bear?
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

The Fruit of the Spirit in Jesus
In the coming weeks, we will see how one Man could embody ALL the fruit of the Spirit in His life. Can you guess who that Man is? Jesus!
That’s right! And we’ll see how when Jesus is in our lives and we are in Jesus, His Holy Spirit bears these fruit in us!
We don’t have to try to squeeze a durian out of a banana tree!
We have a Jesus tree, so we bear Jesus fruit!

Exodus: The Tabernacle ( Part 2 )

LESSON SUMMARY

Jesus our Tabernacle
God planned the tabernacle to the smallest detail because each part — every furniture, ritual and sacrifice — was a picture of what His son, Jesus will do to save the world from sin.
0802 Tabernacle
Brazen altarJesus died on the cross as a sacrifice for sins
Bronze laverJesus washes us clean (Heb 10:22) so we can enter God’s presence boldly and with confidence.
MenorrahJesus is the light of the world (John 1:9).
When we follow Him, we will “never walk in darkness but will have the light of life”. (John 8:12)
Table of ShowbreadBefore He died, Jesus took bread, broke it and gave it to His disciples saying “Take and eat; this is my body.” (Matt 26:26). On the cross, Jesus’ body was broken so that you and I can be made whole.
Altar of IncenseJesus is a pleasing offering; He intercedes for us daily at the right hand of God.
Ark of the Covenant
(Mercy Seat)
Jesus stands between a holy God and sinful man. The High Priest sprinkled animal blood on mercy seat to cover the sins of the Israelites. Christ’s blood was shed to wash away the sins of the entire world.Romans 3:23-25 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement (mercy seat), through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith.

Heb 9:11-12 But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation. He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Placeonce for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.

Exodus: The Tabernacle ( Part 1 )

LESSON SUMMARY

God loves to be with His people
God loves us. He wants to spend time with us. He doesn’t want to be a far off and distant God.
When the Israelites were in the desert, He was willing to stay in a tent so He could be wherever they went.
Today, God still wants to live among us.

Emmanuel, God with us
When Jesus came to earth, one of His names was Emmanuel, “God with us”.
Jesus, the God of heaven and earth, came to stay in a tent — a physical human body — so He could live among us.
John 1:14  And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory,

Jesus is our Tabernacle — God lives in us forever
In fact, the Bible calls Jesus our Perfect Tabernacle. The tabernacle of Moses was just a picture of the real Tabernacle, Jesus, through whom we can be with God forever.
Heb 9:11 But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and
more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.
When we believe in Jesus, we have this Perfect Tabernacle, Jesus, in our hearts.
And that’s how the God’s Holy Spirit can live in us forever and ever.

Memory Verse
2 Cor 6:16  For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said:
“I will live with them
and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”

Exodus: The 10 Commandments

LESSON SUMMARY

No one could keep God’s perfect law …

These were God’s laws. God is perfect, so God’s laws were perfect — They taught us what God’s standards are and what He is like.
And if we want to be perfect, we would have to keep God’s laws perfectly.
But because God’s laws were perfect, you and I will find it very, very difficult to obey all of them. Sometimes it’s very, very difficult to obey just even one.
If we break just 1 commandment, we have broken ALL the commandments. When we break a commandment, we sin — we miss God’s mark of perfection.
So instead of blessings, we deserve punishment!
Ever since, the commandments were given, no one could keep all of God’s perfect laws perfectly.
The Bible tells us, “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

Except for the Perfect Man
No one … except the one perfect man, Jesus!
Jesus:
  • - Lived a sinless life — kept ALL God’s laws
  • - Became the sacrifice for our sins
  • - Was raised from the dead, defeating sin and death
Because Jesus kept all of God’s laws, He was entitled to all of God’s blessings.
When we accept Jesus as our Savour, we receive all the blessing that Jesus paid for us at the cross.

The Holy Spirit helps us to do what is right
The people of Israel had the Law, but they had not power to keep it. The Law just told them how bad they were, but could not help them change. It’s like holding the mirror — the mirror shows you that your face is dirty; it cannot help you clean your face; you try to clean it, but because your hands are dirty, your face becomes dirtier.
Because Jesus fulfilled the Law on our behalf, when we believe in Him, His Holy Spirit comes and lives in us. We become Jesus boys and girls.
We don’t need a list of hundreds of rules to tell us what is right or wrong. The Holy Spirit teaches us what God wants us to do.
Hebrews 8:10 tells us, “God will put His laws in our minds and write them on our heart.” It’s no longer laws on stone but on minds and hearts!
Even better … the Holy Spirit helps us to do what is right.
We can’t love people we don’t like, but Jesus in us can.
We can’t stop doing naughty things like beating our friend or fighting with our sister/brother, but Jesus in us can be kind and gentle to others.
When we feel we cannot love our friend, tell Jesus, “I cannot love my friend, but I know you can love him and you are in me”.  Instead of thinking all the not –so–nice things about your friend, think about how kind Jesus is and how much he loves you, and you will find yourself loving your friend!
And even when we fail and fall, we will not receive God’s punishment anymore (although sometimes mummy and daddy will still discipline us). Instead, He still loves us unconditionally, and we have His blessings in our lives.
